Environmental Bioanalytical Chemistry

Research profile

Prof. Pim Leonards

Metabolomics is a key element in the Environmental Bioanalytical Chemistry research group. It makes a link between metabolic processes, functioning of organisms and phenotypical changes, human health and chemical exposure. The focus in this group is on metabolic profiling of various biological samples to unravel the effects of toxic contaminants. In addition, biomarkers that can be determined in cohorts will be identified. There is a strong link between this group and the Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology research group. Effect-directed analysis (EDA) is an important technique in which bioassays and advanced chemical analytical methods are being used to identify unknown contaminants.
