Associate professor

Dr. Jan Commandeur studied Pharmacochemistry at VU University Amsterdam and graduated in 1985 with a specialization in Molecular Toxicology. He obtained his PhD degree in 1991. Dr. Commandeur’s research interest lies in enzymology and structure-activity relationships of drug metabolizing enzymes, notably cytochrome P450s, and the characterization of the reactive intermediates formed by these enzymes. In addition, he is interested in the development of novel P450s which can be used as biocatalysts for large scale metabolite production and which can serve as model proteins for biochemical and biophysical studies into the mechanism of action of P450s.

Amongst others, Jan Commandeur is Master’s coordinator of specialization Drug Disposition and Safety Assessment of the Master’s programme Drug Discovery and Safety and organizer of annual the postdoctoral course on Molecular Toxicology, the annual LACDR/ EUFEPS course on High-Throughput Drug Metabolism and Disposition, and the biannual ULLA Drug Metabolism course. He is member of the editorial board of Toxicology Letters and a referee of several journals.
