The mission of AIMMS is to gain fundamental understanding of molecules and their interaction with biological systems to improve human health and the environment. AIMMS integrates various disciplines to understand, modulate, and use chemical and biological processes. AIMMS strives towards excellence in research and (post)doctoral training. AIMMS believes that excellence in translational and applied research is fuelled by strong fundamental science.

The mission reflects that we take a molecular perspective, with contributions to two major themes of the VU:  Human Health and Life Sciences (H2LS) and Science for Sustainability (S4S). We have the ambition to understand properties and fates of molecules, and how the interactions between molecules affect function, in health and disease, to then translate that knowledge with partners into applications that benefit society and human health.
