Identification of novel bioactive substances on brain receptors

Programme / Research groups

This AIMMS-PhD project 10-001-203 is part of the programme Design and characterization of molecules and medicines.

The project bridges the two research groups Biomolecular Analysis (FEW, PI: Jeroen Kool) and Molecular Neurobiology (FALW, PI: Guus Smit).

Keywords

on-line cell based analysis, ligand-gated ion channel, cone snail venom, brain-derived ligands, bioactivity to identity correlation

Summary

Today, it is still cumbersome to profile natural extracts for bioactive compounds. This AIMMS project focuses on a new technology to identify ligands in complex natural sources based on cellular biological activity. With the technology, we aim at characterizing cone snail venoms and brain tissues to find new ligands. (Read More)
